Missy.

This is Missy, one of the brother-sister pair of kittens we got from a friend 18 months ago.

Yesterday she brought home a blackbird. A live blackbird. I was out shopping, but reportedly the blackbird wasn't going down without a struggle and managed to fight off Missy, Theo and my Hubby round most rooms of the house before Hubby caught it and took it down to the garden to free it. Minus about half its feathers, but still capable of a wobbly flap. I missed this drama, but one of the things I said was that I was SO glad Missy hadn't brought it back during Christmas lunch, bad cat. Bad cat just curled up in a drawer and went to sleep on top of the teatowels.

She managed to go one better when it came to ruining our Christmas lunch. Just as our guests were arriving today, she got hit by a car just outside our house. Two passing neighbours alerted us and after a frantic hunt by them, our son and myself we found her under a tree, unmarked but obviously badly hurt. I brought her back to the house and was just phoning the emergency vet when she died, very quietly. She didn't seem to have ben in obvious pain, but was very, very shocked. Internal bleeding? I don't know, though the neighbours said that when she was hit, there was a very loud thump. I don't know if the driver even saw her because the angle of the sun would have been in his eyes going up our hill. He didn't stop though, and he must have known he hit something. She ran off into a garden. Maybe he thought she was okay.

Anyway, she's dead. It was a horrible Christmas lunch and my son especially is very distressed. We're all very sad. She wasn't a lap cat, she liked to be outside watching things and killing small beasts but she did like a scratch and a cuddle from all of us and as she got older she was rounding into a lovely personality of a cat. We all loved her very much. However the kids have decided she's gone to live with their big brother Robbie in heaven. I like that idea. He always wanted a cat as a pet and he'd like her, I'm sure.

Christmas is officially cancelled here, folks. Hope you all had a better one.

I know that some will say, hey, it's just a cat...but not to cat lovers. What a day. I'm so sorry for you and your family, it hurts to lose a member, no matter who it is.

I'm really sorry to read this.

We had a crap day too if it's any consolation but that's due to DD being a brat.

I am so sorry Isabella. I am sitting looking at Greebo and thinking how awful life would be without him. She was a lovely looking cat.

So sorry to hear your sad news. Cats are so important yet often with us for such a short time Sounds like Missy was a proper outdoor hunting cat, I'm sure she had a really happy life with you.

I'm so, so sorry this happened. What a horrible thing to happen on any day, let alone Christmas Day. {{{Hugs}}} from across the oceans.

Oh Isabella I am so sorry to hear about your cat, she looks so pretty.
We are currently a cat-free household (and it feels very odd) and every so often there is a chorus of can we visit the pet shop, can we have a kitten, can we just look in the window of the rescue place? Even the naughty ones leave a great big hole when they are gone. {{{hugs}}}

I'm so so sorry Isabella, you must be devastated:(
Sending hugs and I'm so glad Missy didn't suffer too long if that is something to be glad for.

Oh I"m so sorry. But it sounds like she had a good life, however short it was, cozy drawers to sleep in and birdies to chase... really she couldn't have asked for better.

Our Iggy went the same way, just looked asleep under the picnic table, but had died from wounds....I feel for you, but you can't keep them in, it's not living. After a while we have now got more cats, it hurts when they die, but it's always nice to have them too. Thinking of you at this sad time, Fran

I am so sorry. What a shitty thing to happen on any day, let alone one with such burdensome expectations to be happy. So sorry.

I am so, so very sorry for your loss - Missy sure was a beauty. I really can't think of anything worse - and I've lived it as a kid too. I'm sending all healing energies, and I hope Robbie is happy to have her with him - a comforting thought.

Oh love :( I'm so sorry. One of our kittens died in April and it was really horrible, especially for the kids. I'm glad it was a quick passing for her though.

Sorry to hear about the loss on such a day. One of my neighbours had the same thing happen to her a couple of years back and ours is a quiet country road. Although not a good consolation at least she didn't suffer for too long :(

It is horrible when a furry family member dies. I lost 2 in the past 2 years. They were quite old..
Your Missy is the twin of my Roxy who passed 5 years ago.
My heart goes out to you.
