I just realised that today is my Blog Anniversary. Wow, how time flies, no? One year of ... meanderings is probably the right word. Certainly an awful lot mote "misc" than spinning or knitting! Oh well, that`s my life, really.
Sooooo....tis traditional to have a wee contest, no? Okay, here it is. Send me a comment telling me why you think "Spinning Fishwife" is a good (or bad) name for me. No theory too extreme! It doesn`t have to be the real answer of course...that would make things far too obvious for these that know me well! (Eh, Shona??) Entries will be judged on amusement value, originality and quite possibly drawing the names out a hat. I have a skein of HipKnits 100% cashmere sock/fine 4-ply (400yds per 80g skein) in Candycane as a prize for the winner.

I know the answer, so I will not enter the competition, coz thats not fair, even if I would LOVE the sock yarn.......but then I just LOVE sock yarn!
Happy blogiversary BTW!
It`s not supposed to be a REAL answer, Shona.....you get points for submitting any old bo***ks, as long as it`s entertaining.......
Is "bo***ks" a clue, then? My guess is it's the language used when trying to learn to spin, if my own experiences are anything to go buy!
Hmm. I would have thought that the language used when learning to spin, whilst possibly fishwifely in vocabularly would definitely not have been in volume!
Perhaps more likely the language used when discovering what the rabbits have been up to on the allotment ;-)
Well, being the "furriner" that I am I can only guess...Your hubby is a fisherman? He spends sooooo much time out to sea, you being left with the children spinning is your only sanity!! Just my silly theory!
I know that if I lived in Eastern Virginia where my hubby is from...I'd be an *oysterwife"!!
Well, my guess about the connection would also have been "bad language," because that's what I hear about most often with regard to fishwives (not that I hear about them very often).
But since the language on your blog is fairly clean, I'll go with the "hard working" connotation - it fits you better, what with the spinning and gardening and kids and cats.
Or it could just be named after your icon picture. But I'm going with hard working, just in case shameless flattery will help my chances here.
Happy blog anniversary!
I just found you and being from the states, I picture you nestled on the coast in a cozy cottage. ;) The first thing that came to my mind was that your husband is one of those rugged wool wearing fisherman. Not a very exciting guess tho!
You are married to an excentric fisherman, when he comes home from sea he gives you a fish to hold in each hand and then picks you up and spins you round ......
Alternatively when you were learning to spin you had a mouth like a sewer....
For fun I looked it up in an online dictionary:
Fishwife
A woman who sells fish.
2. A woman regarded as coarse and shrewishly abusive.
So it cant be that then!
Maybe your are referring to fish spinning around their tank pointlessly - then adding wife because you are...
Sorry they are not very amusing.
Good luck with your decluttering. I tried to limit the accumulation of stuff by throwing something out whenever I brought something in. it worked for a while...
This character (Playmobile's fishwife) was the one my kids liked least...the one who most often stayed in the box and was least played with....the one visitors' kids were always made to have, the one I always most associated with my (hard working) self (ahem!!!) and as for spinning, my Scottish mother-in-law always mis-used it when meaning that one (usually me!) was revolving on the spot and achieving little (or nothing, in my case) Anywhere close?
Or perhaps you are married to Rumpelstiltskin (spins straw into gold) and HE makes you scream like a fishwife.....
Or maybe it's just her lovely cap...
This is too hard for me.....I'm going back to my proper job!
I can't do entertaining boll**ks right now, it's too early and I have to be picking up from Scouts soon.
You're the piscatorial equivalent of a golf widow. He's a big angler, carp probably because they have more man toys and that would account for the vast heaps of "stuff" filling the loft.
Either that or you regularly shriek profanities at the (ex)neighbours who have been holding up the roof repairs for so long.
I hate the blogger iq test - I can never get these &*&* letters right.
Well, I've lurked round your blog for a little while and I've really enjoyed it but I wasn't going to leave a comment 'cos we haven't been introduced as it were. But you sounded sooo sad. So here is my guess.
Your sweet playmobile is wearing a creel,
with a fetching plain square on her head
but the look in her eye leads me to descry that her language would knock you stone dead.
Howzat?
Geez, I have no idea what bo***ks means! My immediate reaction to your site's name was that your husband was a fisherman and you were left with time to fill....as in golf widow. I personally like it when my husband fills his time with his own interests and leaves me to my own pleasures!
I didn't comment on Cara's because I've got STR (knitting some right now, and wearing some right now!) but Hipknits~ I haven't had the opportunity to ever touch!
But maybe a spinning fishwife is someone who spins yarn while on a boat?
OK, my first thought is taken (that you curse like a sailor when spinning or when you were learning or something). And I'm not as creative as some....the only other thought I have is that I know there are several restaurants named "Fishwife"....so maybe you got really crazy dancing up a storm in one of those restaurants and just spun across the dance floor?
Sorry....I don't deserve to win anyway, because you've been tagged! :-) You can read the rules on my blog.
OK I'll give an answer.
You are spinning coz there is so much to be done in the house that your head is spinning and the fishwife bit is coz the kittens eat so much fish the local fishmonger thinks you are starting your own business coz you buy so much fish!
Is that bo**ks enough?
See, you wanted people to use their brains. People hate that.
Because you're a spitting harridan unless you get to spin regularly?
Cheers and happy anniversary!
Too late now?
Anyway ... spinningfishwife, cos you are spinning round and round those ringroads past all the fishing villages looking for more yarn!
Why, Dollink, because you spin and are just SHY of being a harridan, of course as any self-respecting fishwife usually is. You did not even have to ask.
LOL
Or it could be that you work for a fish farm.
am I too late?.....my first thought was that you had so much to do that you were spinning...and thus a wife of a fish.....can't be.
maybe the wife of a spinning fish, do fish spin?
what i do know is... "spinning fish " is to do something with determination and purpose but it makes no difference and furthers no goal or greater outcome.
does your husband do that?
